Every product starts with an idea. It is the job of a product designer to take that idea and carefully craft it into tangible, sellable merchandise.

I’ve posted some product sketches and production photos of our new Harmony Ceramics below to help give you an idea of the creative process behind the products that you carry.

Harmony Ceramics
The Harmony Ceramics are among my personal favorites. The pieces are reminiscent of classic Greek vessels, and feature large, rich patterns, giving the set a unique flare that you won’t find anywhere else.

Sketches
Product sketches allow me to not only put my ideas on paper, but also to communicate those ideas to the manufacturer. The first sketch shows the basic product shape and dimensions.

The next sketch focuses on cosmetic specifications like materials, texture and color. This is where the products really start to take on a personality of their own.

Production Samples
After I am finished with the initial product design, I send the sketches off to the manufacturer, who crafts production samples based on my specifications.

Samples can go through several revisions. It can takes weeks or even months of tweaking before we receive a final product. The Harmony Bottle’s original specifications, for instance, called for a more ornate top then the simple, modern tops that we decided to go with.
